After a 20 year career as an elementary school teacher, I visited my first alpaca ranch and the rest was history. Now four years later, I am retire and busier then ever. I have spent the last four years building a successful agritourism business in the North Valley of Albuquerque transforming my owner-built adobe compound into a spa and resort for alpacas and ranch visitors alike. Albuquerque Alpacas is home to a herd of 20 alpacas with a few visiting alpacas that come and go. When I am not feeding, training, birthing, medicating, and cleaning up after after animals; I am stocking inventory, weaving, spinning, knitting, and consigning items in my on site retail store. Business paperwork seems to consume any free time. People often comment on the level of work present in my life but if you love what you do then it is not work!
